Instructional Assistants (IA’s) work directly with faculty in providing classroom support as well as tutorial services for students enrolled in related courses within the ASL Studies Program.  The IA Coordinator oversee the scheduling of IA’s, work with the Faculty Supervisor in providing training and orientation for IA’s, and serve as a communication liaison between IA’s and the Faculty Supervisor for any needs.  The program is run by the Faculty Supervisor who works closely with the IA Coordinator and Instructional Assistants.  Instructional Assistants can earn up to 3 credits as part of ASLN 3292 Experiential Learning and the IA Coordinator is generally a paid positions.

IA Coordinators must be an undergraduate student and have at least two semesters’ experience as an IA within the ASL Program.  In addition, IA Coordinator(s) must have completed ASLN 1101-1104 with a grade of B or better.  While no specific overall GPA is required, the IA Coordinator is expected to be in good academic standing.

Instructional Assistants must also be an undergraduate student and have completed the course for which they would like to serve as an IA with a grade of B or better.  In rare cases, an IA may be assigned to a course they have not taken if they are recommended by a faculty member within the ASL Studies Program and approved by the Faculty Supervisor.  While no specific overall GPA is required, the IA is expected to be in good academic standing.

IA applications for Fall and Summer positions must be submitted by the last day of March to the IA Coordinator.  Applications for any Spring positions must be submitted by the last day of November.

Students interested in working as an IA Coordinator must submit an IA Coordinator Application Linda Pelletier by the last day of March.
